又開又「san」好易壞

為了瞭解這個由細聽到大的傳說的真實性,我發電郵去機電工程署詢問了。

Short answer: 兩者沒有關係。

Long answer:

Under normal operating condition, we should switch off the electrical appliances when not being used, and only turn it on when needed. This will not affect the life of the equipment.

Only for very heavy equipment, for example the chiller of central air-conditioning plant for a building, the supplier might specify the maximum number of start/stop allowed.

But this do not apply for those equipment at our home or within the office area, e.g. lights, TV, etc, at which we should switch the appliances off whenever they are not in use.
